Meet the Sullivans: Updates

March 5, 2012

I used to call these posts "weekend wrap-up", but really its more of a entire week wrap-up don't you think? Or maybe even more like an update of stuff from the last week.

Owen hanging out during play time this week.

Keith went back to work last week and contrary to what I may have thought, Owen and I managed to survive without him. I knew we'd be fine, but I had led myself to believe it would be much harder than it actually was. Owen and I have even gotten into a little bit of a grove together! We successfully made it to Costco on Tuesday and to his Aunt Kelly's on Wednesday. It feels so good to get out with him and have him be a happy camper.

Caffeine is no longer just enjoyable, but has become a serious necessity. I have my usual cup in the morning and I'm craving another by 3 o'clock in the afternoon. I'm sure its not the greatest for me, but when I can't get a nap in its a lifesaver. I just wish we had a drive through Starbuck's, or even better a Peet's! When the babe is sleeping I can't justify possible waking him just so I can get some coffee.

I heard from some mommy friends who've been in the same predicament that McDonald's lattes fit the bill. I'll try that this week.

Keith and I went out on our first post-baby date Saturday night. We had dinner at Steelhead Brewery and spent the entire drive there and most of dinner talking about how adorable Owen is!

Keith's mom Barbara watched him, and he even got to hang with his Aunt Kelly, Uncle Keith and cousin Nick. We're really lucky to have family that love him so much and take excellent care of him. And a little note for the record books: When we came home Owen fell asleep sucking his paci while laying on his play mat. This is a first for him, he always needs to be bounced or rocked to sleep.

My New Year's resolution this year was to read one book a month (at least!), and so far I've been successful at it! I finished Pictures of You and Catching Fire, which I'll tell you about later this week. I started reading a new book last week by Dr. Laura Schlessinger called In Praise of Stay-at-Home Moms. I certainly don't agree with all of the things she says, but it really does feel good to hear praise and supportive opinions for I am beginning to do.

When the day comes that the baby is still crying after all the tricks I've tried, I'm exhausted from bouncing and holding him all day, I haven't been able to shower or go anywhere or make dinner by the time Keith gets home I know I will feel better by remembering some of the statements in her book.

I really miss going to church. I miss hearing the homily, receiving Communion, singing the songs...When I taught Kindergarten our whole school went to Mass together on Holy Days of Obligation, as well as every first Friday of the month and that was just when I would go to church during the week at work, not even counting Mass on the weekend. Owen isn't really ready to sit through an hour long Mass and its hard to leave him, but I'd like to make it a point to for us all the make it to Mass next weekend.

Thursday night after dinner my mom and I are going to meet up at the gym to try a Zumba class! (Pending the OK from my OB on Tuesday at my final postnatal visit). I'm so excited to give it a try!

Have a great Monday everyone! And enter the giveaway!

That book is on my list of "want to reads" will have to let us know your final thoughts at the end. I am in the same scenario with has been so hard getting it back into my weekend routine and Greyson's baptism is next month so I better get him use to being there quiet for an hour since he will be the man of the hour soon! :)
