Meet the Sullivans: Keep Calm & Run!

Keep Calm & Run!

I'm training for a race! You see, I used to be a runner (shamelessly tooting my own horn here: I took 1st in the first race I ever ran). I say used to be because I haven't really done it much since finding out I was pregnant with Owen, which was April 2011. That's 15 months. Pregnancy really set me back in terms of running. I know some people can work out or run all through their pregnancy, but that was not me. I could be found mostly on the couch sleeping or working during those months.

But I digress... I really love running. There is a reason there is a term "runners high". I really get that. After a good run I feel strong and accomplished and I'm yearning to feel that way again. Getting back to exercising has been rough after having a a baby. First the c-section slowed me down physically. The lack of sleep makes it hard to run and I'm just so busy that finding time for exercise means sacrificing something else I enjoy doing.

While there are quite a few things keeping me from getting out there there is now one BIG thing that will be MOTIVATING me to get out there. We're signing up for another Muddy Buddy race for this September--that's about 3 months away!

Here is a little bit about the race:
"Teams of two traverse a 6 – 7 mile off-road course, through 5 unique obstacles. At the start of the race, one team member will run and one will ride the bike. At the 1st obstacle, the rider will drop the bike, complete the obstacle, and begin running. The runner will arrive, complete the obstacle, find their bike and begin riding. Teams will continue leapfrogging each other through the entire course. At the end of the race, racers crawl through the infamous Mud Pit crossing the finish line together as official “Muddy Buddies!”

This is a shot taken of the mud pit at the race last time we ran.
Yep, that is me covered in mud from our last race!
I'm hoping that sharing all this on the blog will keep me motivated, as well as the looming race--which would be torture if I don't train. Owen and I got out for a run earlier this week for the first time together! He feel asleep and I felt really accomplished in the end. I'm in the process of developing a training program that includes running, biking, cross training and strength training. I look forward to sharing it soon!

This looks awesome! We did the Mud Crusade in April. And I think we're doing another Mud Run in October. They are so fun and addicting!
