31 Days of Our Daybook: Days Like Today

This cold is not letting up, and neither is my baby. Last night was another day of terrible sleep. Owen went to be at 8pm and was up at 10:30, 11:30, 1:30, 4:30 and then came into our bed at 6am.

And today was a day of too short naps that didn't allow enough time for me to fall asleep. I really wish I were the kind of person who could fall asleep at the drop of a hat. I envy those people!

One of the highlights of my day were talking for nearly two hours to my dear dear friend Nicole who lives on the East Coast. Babies, husbands, home life and the time difference keep us from getting to talk on a regular basis. But when we do talk it's just like we're 10 again and chatty, chatty, chatty. We've gotten ourselves in quite a bit of trouble over the years with all our chattering.

The other treat of the day was having my mom and sister come by for a visit. We don't live far from them, and I usually get to see my sister during the week at least once, but it's still so nice to spend some weekend time together.

I love watching Owen with my mom and sister. They love him so much and I can see how much happiness his little smiles bring to them. And it makes my heart full knowing he has such loving people in his life.

..but it's days like today when I get a little emotional about my dad. I can't help but miss him when we're all together. It's days like today when I feel the gaping void in my heart. I feel like it is just so so wrong that Owen and my dad never met and never got to experience and enjoy each other's company....but that's a whole other post I guess.

I feel sad for Owen, who will never get to know how fun a grandpa can be. I cherish the relationship I have with my grandpa, and I wish Owen could have a clever grandpa to tell him funny and unforgettable stories.

Keith came home in the afternoon with roses (+1 point Sully) and we all sat down for a quick (and super fancy) dinner of hamburger helper and roast brussels sprouts. Pretty satisfying for this sicky.

Here's to hoping tomorrow brings a healthier and well rested me!

This is Day Six in 31 Days of Our Daybook.
