I recently saw an article in the February issue of Real Simple magazine about ways to incorporate more greens into your diet. There were some great smoothie recipes and tips on making a smoothie the right way that I want to share with you.
Tip #1: Put the liquid in first. Surrounded by water or juice, the blender blades can move freely. Next, add your greens, with chunks of fruits and veggies going into the pitcher last.
Tip #2: Start slow. If your blender has speeds, start it on low to break up big pieces of fruit, then work your way up to high for a puree. For blenders with function buttons, pulse a few times before switching to puree mode.
Tip #3: Thicken with ice. Added too much juices or coconut milk? Toss a few cubes in the blender and voila!
Ingredients SERVES TWO
1/2 cup coconut milk
2 cups stemmed and chopped kale
1 1/2 cups chopped pineapple
1 ripe banana, chopped
Combine coconut milk, 1/2 cup water, the kale, pineapple, and banana in a blender and puree until smooth, about 1 minute, adding more water to reach the desired consistency.
