Meet the Sullivans: Owen is 13 Months!

Owen is 13 Months!

Dear Owen,

Mommy has fallen way behind on your monthly updates. As I write this you are 13 months and 3 weeks old. I have a hard time saying "He's one-year-old" out loud when people ask us how old you are. I much prefer saying how old you are in months, as if in doing that I can keep you little for a little bit longer.

You have certainly blossomed in to a "big boy" since turning one. We often look at you and wonder what happened to the baby days. I'm pretty sad that we can't travel back in time to last summer when you were so tiny still.

But, even though I miss you as a baby, this time with you is more exciting than ever!

Playing in the front yard + in your diaper + with the garden hose = Your Happy Place

Communication: Your newest words are "me" and "bebe". You also say "baba" for your bottle or when you want milk.

You've discovered how to really use the word "no", and you even say it in the proper context. When you say it now we can really hear your voice coming out and even though I wish you hadn't learned "no" I do love hearing you speak.

You are a really great communicator and we can't believe how much you understand. Just yesterday I was trying to distract you from your dad while he was eating his breakfast before leaving for work. I asked you to "sweep the floor" because you love "sweeping" the hardwood floors with your little pretend broom we bought you. You listened to exactly what I said to do! You found your broom among your other toys and began sweeping. You are a genius!

Sleep: I don't want to curse myself by putting this out there into the world, but you have been an amazing sleeper in recent weeks. You've been sleeping through the night most nights. I've become a bit spoiled with it, and I feel really tired the next day if I have to get up with you in the middle of the night now because I'm so used to sleeping in. You've also been taking 1 hour + naps twice a day.

Food: You love to eat, but I'm sad to say you're quite picky. You'd eat Goldfish crackers all day long if we let you. You smile from ear to ear when you get just one "fishy" grasped in the palm of your hand. You still refuse to eat most fruits and vegetables, but we sneak them into your diet in the form of smoothies and other tricky methods.

You drink milk like a maniac. You get kind of crazy-happy after drinking it. You have a warm bottle first thing in the morning, which is about 8oz and follow up with 8oz every three hours after that until bedtime.

Activity: Your favorite place to play is outside. You really like to play with the garden hose (see photo above). You like to "color" with crayons, throw balls and "sweep" the floor and dance. We love love love to watch you dance. You "shake your diaper booty" for us when you hear a song you like--you seem to like hip hop the most. You discovered a new dance move this month where you kind of run in place. You're really proud of your moves! You also mimic me when I'm doing squats or lunges.

Clothing: We're mainly buying 18-24 month shirts and pants these days. You still fit into your 12-18 month clothes, but are quickly growing out of the ones that run a bit small. You wear size 4 daytime diapers and size 5 overnights.

Travel: You went on your first long car ride recently to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. You took your first nap on the way there and your second on the way home. You did great!

Owen you are so full of life and joy. I wish we could all be as loving, genuine and energetic as you are. Mommy and Daddy love you so much and we feel so lucky to be your parents.

xoxo,
Mommy

Typical boy with being happiest when he's OUTSIDE!!!! I love that ---- easy way to keep them happy! :) And I swear, he just get cuter and cuter............. love him!!!!!!!!!!

Ps - you probably think I'm the rudest person ever because I never respond to your comments. I always do, but I JUST NOW realized that your email isn't linked w/ your blog, so you're technically a "no reply blogger". So, you haven't been getting my reply emails!! Just wanted to give you a heads up in case you didn't know! It's SO easy to fix --- just google "no reply blogger" and it'll show you how to update your blogger settings!

Okay, sorry for the novel!!!

Hope you've already had a coronita or two to kick off the weekend!! :) Cheers!
