Sinless Banana Spilt {Recipe) + Giveaway WINNER!

Who doesn't love a creamy classic banana spilt? The flavors of bananas, whipped cream, chocolate, etc were meant to be paired together.

Our favorite spot for this old fashioned treat is the Ghirardelli Ice Cream & Chocolate Shop in Ghirardelli Square. BUT, with summer right around the corner I know we're all watching what we eat, so lower calories treats are a must. I really think the best way to "diet" is to trick yourself into thinking that you're still indulging in your favorite treats. That's why this Sinless Banana Spilt is the perfect dessert!

You see, that is not ice cream in the photo below. The "ice cream" you see is pure banana. Nothing else. And it tricks you into thinking you're enjoying a giant banana spilt!

Let me tell you how to make this yourself...

  • 4-5 medium extra ripe banana
  • toppings: whipped cream, sprinkles, mini chocolate chips, cherries, etc.

Ice cream maker directions:

1. Peel bananas and slice into 1/2 inch discs.
2. Using a blender or food processor, puree bananas until extra smooth and creamy.
3. Pour the pureed bananas into your ice cream maker and churn for 30-40 minutes or until the mixture starts to build up on the beater.
4. Spoon into a freezer-safe container.

Freezer directions:

1. Peel bananas and slice into 1/2 inch discs. Arrange banana slices in a single layer on a large plate or baking sheet. Freeze for 1-2 hours.

2. Place the banana slices in a food processor or powerful blender. Puree banana slices, scraping down the bowl as needed. Puree until the mixture is creamy and smooth. Serve immediately for soft-serve ice cream consistency. If you prefer harder ice cream, place in the freezer for a few hours and then serve.

*Note-if you have a hard time creating a creamy consistency, you can add 1-2 tablespoons of milk to help puree the banana slices. Make sure you use a powerful food processor or blender!

Add your desired toppings and Enjoy!
