Dear Dad, Happy Birthday!

Summers up the Russian River

You would have been 59 years old today, Dad! Mom and I were talking yesterday and we agreed that you would have pouted a little bit about turning a year older, but in the end you would have concluded that 60 sounds a whole lot worse. You're where I learned to always try to look on the bright side!

We miss you so much. And although you're not physically here everyday, you're still here in our stories, in our actions, our hearts and our words. Not a day goes by that I don't think to myself, or out loud, about something you used to do or say.

Now that I'm a mom I find myself remembering so many of the things you did with us and it makes me smile. We took Owen to watch the planes take off from the airport like we used to do together. Sometimes I play the Beatles for him just to think of you.

You were a great Dad, and I feel lucky to have learned how to be a great parent from you.

xoxox, Coll

PS.

Can we all just take a minute here to appreciate a man who is THIS excited about being given a pair of sneakers for Christmas? I know for a fact that he was truly not that excited about the shoes he was opening, but that he was trying his best to show appreciation for our gift giving efforts. THAT is SO my Dad :)

Such a sweet post, and a wonderful tribute to your father. He seems like such a special person, and was clearly loved by his children. And that last picture makes me smile :)
