Meet the Sullivans: Drug Store Beauty Routine

Drug Store Beauty Routine

Since becoming a mom I have considerably less time to spend on myself. I still have my hair cut and highlighted every three months, and have bi-monthly manicure pedicures, but the time I have at home to get myself ready (especially during the week) and maintain is less than half of what it used to be. And let me be honest, I'd rather be spending time with my family than carrying on some long, silly beauty routine.

Not only do I have less time, but I'm also spending less too -- I'm no longer buying the majority of my products at the salon, Nordstrom or Sephora, although I still buy my Clinique Super Double Face power at Nordstrom and the occasional eye shadow or blush! I've never been too big into products, BUT when I find one I really LOVE I stick with it forever.

So here are my go to products, the ones I've been using consistently for the past 6 months and that I really have grown to love. If I go as far to take the time to use a product daily then it better be worth the time! Am I right? So here are my faves, the ones that can be bought at Target, Ulta or even the grocery store down the street!

It's all about Hair:

Aveeno Pure Renewal Dry Shampoo - I don't always have time for shower before we head out for the park in the morning, so dry shampoo has become my savior until I can shower later in the day. Not only is the texture of this dry shampoo better than most of the other ones I've tried, but the smell is wonderful! I like that it dries out any oils in my hair leaving it feeling light without any of the stickiness other brands have left me with.

Aussie Hi Hold + Hi Shine Spray -This is the perfect hair spray. Not only does it do it's job of keeping your hair in place (but not too well, just the right amount) but it also add a little bit of shine that regular hairsprays take away. Go get this product!

Organix Moroccan Smooth Perfection Blow Out Cream - On days when I actually take the time to blow dry and style my hair I like to add a bit of this cream to it when it's damp right before I dry it. I love it because it gives my hair a smooth texture and just a bit of shine. It's also great to smooth hair out when you have fly-aways or friz.

For the Skin:

Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque - I really only recently started using this face mask and I have fallen in love with it! It took me a little while to find it after I heard a few other people raving about it, but I finally found it at Molly Stones a month ago.

Yes To Carrots Night Moisturizing Cream -I have normally pretty oily skin, but I still need a moisturizer at night after washing off my make-up. I like this one because it's not too thick or greasy and it smells nice. And I like the packaging. The packaging always gets me!

St. Ives Apricot Scrub - I have been using this exact scrub for YEARS! My mom used to use it and I stole it from her once and have never looked back. I use it in the shower every other day and it really gets the job done.

Yes To Cucumbers Face Cleanser Towelettes - These things are a lifesaver when you're tired and have a full face of make-up on that you have to wash off before bed. It makes the task much more enjoyable -- and the light cucumber scent it so refreshing! I often use them to just freshen up a bit before we go out at night and I've applied make up hours earlier.

Best Face Forward:

Sonia Kashuk® All Covered Up Concealer - I rarely use concealer, but when I do this is my go to brand.

EOS Organic Lip Balm Sphere - Not only are the EOS scents really nice, and the lip balm really light and smooth, but the packaging is so fun too! I bought my first one at Target, but then I loved it so much that I bought a package of 6 at Costco that very weekend. I'm stocked with lip balm for life!

CoverGirl LashBlast Clump Crusher Mascara - My sister first turned me onto the mascara when we were shopping together sometime last Fall. I have been buying it ever since, and I wear it every day! I like that the mascara doesn't flake off under my eyes (leaving behind dark circles and bits of mascara) when I've had it on all day and that it's thick enough to plump up my fine lashes.

Garnier BB Cream - This BB cream went above and beyond my expectations when I bought it. I've always used foundation + moisturizer to get the same sheer coverage for everyday wear, but decided a while back to give BB cream a try (when everyone was raving about it). I was so pleased with the coverage, lightness, and light "glow" it gives my skin.

So that's it! My drug store beauty faves. Now, tell me...

What are your favorite beauty products? Is there something majorly awesome you've found at the local Target / Walgreen's / CVS that I shouldn't go on without knowing about?

I'd love for you to share, because I will gladly take your advice!

Love this post! I am also a huge fan of St. Ives (my Mom got me hoooked too), the Queen Helene for my oily skin and the EOS lip balm goes on every night ;)

You may have sold me on the blow out cream, I'm about to run out of my salon product and I'm not that impressed to spend $25 on it again!

I love seeing what people are using, especially busy moms! I don't spend that much time on myself now either, no pedicures, manicures, I don't blow dry my hair that often all sacrifices for being mom I guess! I've gotta try that aveeno dry shampoo!

I love dry shampoo and have always used Batisse that I order from Amazon, but it would definitely be convenient to be able to pick some up at the drugstore. I will have to try the Aveno brand.

I too was curious about BB cream after everyone was talking non stop about it. I tried Aveeno and it was very thick and uncomfortable. So I will be giving this Garnier a try! Thanks!

ugh speaking of which I really should take some time out for me. I need a hair cut and lots of mom love! It's more important than ever for us to raise our awareness of where products are made. If you want to buy Made in USA, I do reviews of products Made in USA. See my latest here, I sincerely hope this helps you find what you're looking for! http://www.americanmomreview.com/2013/08/glass-dharma-sipper-straw-and-heavenly.html

I've wanted to try BB Cream too. Do you put powder over it or is the coverage enough?

Great post! First, how in the world do you not wear concealer?! That would be amazing... unfortunately concealer is my staple to cover my bags! :) I'm going to try the dry shampoo, I have never used any before but have heard all these great things recently. Aveeno regular moisturizing shampoo has been wonderful for me, and it smells so good! I also love Mabelline BB cream but may try the Garnier brand next. Thanks for the recs!

I have many of the same favorites!! Dry shampoo, apricot scrub, BB cream & EOS are all part of my routine :) I also really love Jergens gradual tanner moisturizer...the scent is great & I like having a little bit of color! Another favorite is E.L.F. blush in Twinkle Pink; it's a good shade with a little sparkle :)
