Meet the Sullivans: KTMA | Making Memories

KTMA | Making Memories

Not a day goes by that I don't wish there was a way to keep Owen at this age forever. I love toddlerhood and all the sweetness that comes with it. I want to bottle up his scent, memorialize his smile, forever hear the sound of his little voice pronouncing a new word for the first time, capture his innocence. I want to be able to relive the emotions that go with watching him smile, comforting him when he cries and witnessing his proudest moments.

I seriously wish there was a way to go back in time so that when he's older and I want to relive these moments I can -- but we all know there is no such thing as time travel, so instead we do our best, as moms, to be memory keepers of our families.

I'd say I'm best at doing this here on this very blog with my Owen updates and also with all the photos I take using my camera. I'm not great at stopping to write all the little things down or detailing the moments in a journal, which is something I wish I did more of....

This is why I've been looking forward to today's link up, because I just know I'll get some great ideas on how to capture my sweet little boy from all of you creative, brilliant ladies!

Let me share with you the ways we're preserving our precious memories...

on the blog
My favorite way to preserve our memories is on this blog. Some of my favorite memory catching making posts: Owen's Birth Story, Monthly Updates, Bus, Owen's First Bike, A-Tisket A-Tasket a Cute Baby in a Basket.
shadow box
My mom gave me this pretty little shadow box years ago for Christmas, and for the longest time it was home to some old family photos. I thought it would be the perfect little way to display something special in Owen's room. I put his little basketball knit cap he wore in the photos we had taken in the hospital and his birth announcement inside. I just love looking at it when we rock at nap time.

keepsake box

Inside the box:

Holy Water from his Baptism
Invitations from his Baby Showers, Baptism and First Birthday Party
Special cards from family and friends
A letter I wrote to him on September 9th, 2011 before he was born
His knit cap from the hospital
Ultra Sound Photos
Newspaper from his birthday
The outfit we  brought him home from the hospital in
The banner from his baptism
Hair from his first haircut
His birth announcement

I'm going to continue to add to the box over time, and eventually I'll have to upgrade the size and quality of the box.

the baby book
We didn't know if we were having a boy or a girl, and so we went with a gender neutral Peter Rabbit nursery theme. And then our friends gave this baby book to us after we came home from the hospital and I thought it was so thoughtful and just the perfect gift! I hadn't bought a baby book yet, and this one has been perfect !

So tell us, what have you done to keep your memories? Be sure to link up and share your great ideas!

I love the shadow box. Too cute!

I'm horrible at updating the baby book. I print our family blog into a book every year which serves as our family journal/baby book. My favorite way to preserve our memories!

I have a special box that I've been storing all of her special things in too. Hospital hat, newborn diaper, hospital bands, cards, ticket stubs, etc. It's a holy mess in there and not organized at all- but at least I have one central location to place all the special things...right?? said...

Totally agree. This is basically WHY I blog. It's for me, it's for my family. It's such a great way to look back on both monumental and ordinary.

I've never heard of a keepsake box, but what a great idea!!! I want to do this now for Sawyer or at least get started on it before he turns 1.
