I've always loved reading about people's experience at blogging conferences and have always though it would be so fun to attend one myself. The problem is that the conferences would usually require a plane trip and hotel stay, and I just can't justify all that for something I consider a hobby (a fun, and very important to me hobby). Well, lo and behold it looks like BlogHer is coming to San Jose in '14!! I could not be more excited about this, because I think it means I'll be going! Anyone else out there planning to attend?

If you read my guest post last year on Julie's blog about my breastfeeding journey you might remember that I kind of gave up on pumping pretty early. I really wish I could have kept it up so that Owen would have always had breast milk when I was away (it was a huge source of guilt for me) from him, but I just could never find the time. I breastfed him up to a year, but could never manage to carve out the time to pump after a feeding.I'm re-telling you all this because a friend of ours is developing a breast pump that is going to change ALL that for so many moms. The (patented-pending) design he developed features improved performance and smaller size (it will be about the size of a smart phone!). This new technology will not only make pumping sessions shorter and more efficient, but also make the experience more discrete.
Anyway, I think this is so neat and wanted to introduce you all to it because I know many of you are mothers / breastfeeding mothers. Do me a quick favor a LIKE their page on Facebook to keep up with them and help this amazing technology get the exposure it needs!

The power went out yesterday afternoon, right before nap time, and I almost didn't know what to do with myself. I couldn't turn on the monitor, humidifier or white noise in Owen's room. My Kindle was dead, so I couldn't read. I couldn't start a load of laundry, watch television, make a cup of tea (I remembered later that I could have used the stove - duh!) or blog. It was all a bit frustrating at first, but once it set in I really enjoyed the peace. I ended up straightening up the house and making some phone calls that I would have probably put off otherwise and when Owen woke up we just sang songs and read books. I didn't feel the pressure to switch the laundry, check emails or vacuum the floor, etc. I could just play. Keith says I wouldn't survive a day in a zombie apocalypse.

Very neat about the breast pump...I went and liked their page. Gosh our power seems to go out all the time and it stresses me out! No video monitor or white noise....ah! We made the investment and bought a generator last year because when the power goes out for long periods of time here our little home gets very cold...and cold and baby just doesn't mix. :) We only turn it on if the power has been out for 6+ hours. Anyway...long rant there about the power. I hear ya. -Andrea
Happy early birthday!!! When we lost power I freaked because there was nothing to do, but then I enjoyed the quiet and just talking to my husband. Quiet is nice.
Thanks so much for liking the Naia Mom page :) It's really hard when there is no power. At first I felt mad because I couldn't get anything I needed to do done. Luckily it doesn't happens often. I heard it was because someone hit a power pole with their car.
Thank you! You're so sweet :)
I hope you have a great birthday weekend!! I love spreading it out over a few days. ;) No power!!!!! I don't know what I would do with myself besides nap myself...haha!!
Hope your b-day weekend is fabulous!! -I think I need to look into these monthly box deals with goodies- there's just so many different ones to choose from!
Happy happy birthday weekend!! I hope you celebrate with lots of delicious treats, margaritas, and fun people!
The power goes out here ALL THE TIME. I swear one nap-time I almost started reading lex's books- my kindle is now always charged.
Yeah, definitely charging my Kindle today. I learned my lesson!
Thank you! We love our Citrus Lane box so much it makes me want to sign up for some other monthly subscription boxes!
What's funny is that I usually feel like napping when Owen does, but had no desire to do so yesterday -- probably because it was almost the only thing I could do!
Have a fabulous birthday weekend! October birthdays are the best! :) I'm curious to see the new pump they come up with - I never got enough from mine and will probably be trying a different one when the next baby arrives!
I just turned 32 yesterday-yay for October 1981 birthdays :) Have fun!
Happy early Birthday! (Funny, I thought you were shorter and younger!) Actually happy to see another thirtysomething mama, sometimes I feel like an old blogger ;) I dont know what I'd do in a prolonged power outage and our area was hit with one for days (weeks) with super storm Sandy last year, we completely lucked out and only lost for a bit the night of the storm, but had friends go for days. Would drive me crazy!
Happy Early Birthday Colleen! Hope the boys spoil you ;-) thank you so much for the NAIA information I'm sure it will help so many mom's. (If he is looking to raise $ to get it started, tell them to check out IndieGoGo- it's a crowd funding company that raises $$ for start up companies like this.) I enjoy your blog so much and have found so many fun things to do with Mason from it, recipes to cook and wonderful drinks. Thanks for sharing. Enjoy your weekend ;-)
HA! Love your comment about he zombie apocalypse!! It's ok...I wouldn't either! Have a great weekend, and happy early birthday!

Happy early Birthday! I hope it's a wonderful day, you deserve it!
Happy Early Birthday!!!!
Happy Early Birthday!!! And that pump sounds amazing- I'll definitely have to check out their page! Happy weekend :)
Me too! I'll definitely be buying one if they're out when we have another baby! I'd love to be able to pump and build a supply but I definitely don't have the time and space to have a pump set up all the time.
Yay!!!
Erinn you made my YEAR! You thought I was younger and shorter, I love you! I feel so old in blogland .. which is funny because in real-life, out here in California, I often feel like a fairly young mom most often. I think people in other parts of the country seem to start their families sooner.
Thank you Marice! You're so sweet! I'll have to pass that info onto my friend Nicole.
Thank you!
Thanks!
Thank you!!!
Thanks Leah!!
Thank you!
Thanks Tara!
Oh that's awesome that BlogHer will be so close to you! I've always wanted to attend a blog conference but they are always so far away from wherever I'm living!
OMG! San Jose?!! That's an hour away from me!! Take me with you;)
Boy, oh {mamas} boys Blog
Happy Birthday. 1 hour to go on the east coast =) What a great pump idea! Pumping was the worst. Mom's that pump - I think some sort of cash prize would be a nice bonus, monthly.
Happy birthday and girl, that breast pump sounds amazing! I need it for our next little one!
