Meet the Sullivans: Goals for the New Year (2014)

Goals for the New Year (2014)

I love a fresh start. A new beginning. Another chance at doing my best, of making life better. Instead of making do-or-die resolutions for the year, I've made a handful of goals. The goals aren't huge or unattainable, but are a bunch of little things I can do to make our life just a little bit better, and more fun, this year!

But first, a few pictures from our little New Year's Day hike yesterday.

My goals for 2014...

Read more books.  Reading is always at the top of my goals for each new year.  I love to read, and you'd think that if you want something enough you'll make time for it...but needs always get in the way of wants, right? I need sleep, Owen needs dinner, we need clean folded clothes. Anyway, my plan is to read before bed each night before getting too sleepy.

Live intentionally, i.e. keep a schedule. This is a long one. There are things I want to get back to doing and keeping myself accountable will help the consistency at which I do them.
  • I want to make doable weekly and daily goals / to do lists.
  • I want to make sure Owen gets to get out for something fun each day (the park, a class, a play  date, the zoo and even the gym childcare is fun for him these days).
  • I want to get back to having my grocery list and menu plan for the next week done by Friday.
  • I want to get our errands done early on the weekend so we can have more Family Days and Date Nights or Days.
  • I want to make sure I make it to the gym Tuesday / Wednesday / Thursday, at the least.
  • I want to keep my blog on a schedule too, and improve its content and originality.
It's all in "the plan", and as you may know, I'm a huge fan of a well thought out plan.

Try a new recipes from the cookbooks I already have. Sounds doable! I've already made a couple, and it's working out. I have so many almost brand new cookbooks, but only pick one or two recipes to try before shelving the book. My goal is to pick a new recipe from my cookbooks at least twice a month, but hopefully closer to 4.

Make a plan of action for our budget and savings, and set a few family goals. We did okay at this last year. We set up a budget, and allotted funds for various spending categories. There were weeks when we slacked for sure, but I think it's a work in progress. This year I want us to try harder to stick with it and make more room for unexpected costs that may arise.

Dailies. I thought it would be fun to make sure I get a photo each day of something we're doing. I'm actually pretty good at this already, but wouldn't it be fun to look back on this year and see a picture or video clip for each day? I think so! I'll be hash tagging each picture on my Instagram with the tag #csullivaneveryday2014 if you'd like to follow along!

Whew, this is a lot, but like I said, they're all things I've done in the past or know we can handle. I don't think it will be too difficult, as these are pretty general goals that have to do with our daily life. No huge changes here, just trying to live better and with more intention.

Cheers to a wonderful 2014!

Looks like some good goals. I like the idea of cooking new recipes from cookbooks. I love cookbooks but don't utilize them like I should!

Great list of goals, I love the live intentionally, I might adopt that goal for myself too.

These are great goals. I love your "live intentionally" goal and your goal to pick out recipes from your cookbooks. I'm also guilty of only trying out a handful of recipes and putting the book away. I may adopt that goal for this year too! Cheers to 2014!

These are all great goals! I really love the cookbook goal because that's something I'm trying to do as well. My husband gave me one of the Pioneer Woman cookbooks for Christmas so I decide to try extra hard to make lots of recipes from that book before it ever goes on the self. Hope your twenty fourteen is awesome!
