It's the Little Things...Like Butterflies and Anacondas

I’m linking up this today with jess and ashley for their fun little things link up!

On Sunday morning after church we took Owen and Keith's mom up to the California Academy of Sciences. He was so little on our last trip up there that I doubt he took much of it in, I mean he didn't even wear shoes back then, but this time he was into everything! We were able to make it up there right as they opened and stayed until later into the afternoon.

First stop was the rain forest, which is always one of our favorites! It's toasty warm in there, but the butterflies are so pretty that it is totally worth the humidity. Can you spot the butterfly in this picture?

Every time one of the butterflies flew near Owen he would close his eyes and giggle. When we made it to the end of the exhibit we found this little bush that apparently is like butterfly catnip, because they were all over that thing. We tried getting one to land on Owen's hand, but no luck!

The elevator that you take down from the top of the rain forest exhibit spits you out right in front of the huge tank that is home to the anaconda. Owen was in love! The anaconda was really active and did all sorts of slithering around for everyone, which just mesmerized Owen even more. He would have been happy as a clam to just sit there all day with his snacks and watch the snake.

We also visited the Early Explorers Cove (a play area for preschoolers and their parents) for the first time. It was great to have a safe zone for Owen to run around in for a little while. There was a pirate ship with a kitchen, a tree house, coloring zone and a spot for a puppet show.

There are a few very large and gorgeous tanks in the aquarium. Owen loved watching the little fish swimming all around. At one point he said he say Nemo, and low and behold, there was a little fish in there that looked just like him. This was another spot where we could have spent hours just gazing away at the beauty, but unfortunately we had to tear ourselves away and head home.

Another fun family day for the books!

This place looks amazing! I thought that it would be more for older kids so I never looked into it. I definitely have to go now! Thanks for posting. My little things post was about the Exploratorium this week! That's a pretty cool place as well, but more for the older kids. I can't wait to check out this museum!

I love it so much! I don't think Owen could have a better smile. Super fun that the snake put on a shower, I don't think I've ever seen one more at a zoo (and in real life I wouldn't be sticking around to find out...eee).

what a great family trip! I love the look on his face as he's trying to catch the butterfly! Such a fun place to visit and it sounds/looks very toddler friendly

That looks like such a neat place! I can't wait for work to slow down so I can start taking my little man exploring places like that. Owen is a doll!
