Meet the Sullivans: FIVE on FRIDAY

FIVE on FRIDAY

Three cheers for Friday and a fun weekend ahead of us! We've got a beach date planned with my mom for Mother's Day, a date night for Keith and I where we may actually see a movie AND eat dinner, and a family fun day planned with my guys on Sunday. I'm excited to get the weekend started, but FIRST...

I'm linking up with the sweet ladies behind The Good Life, Carolina Charm, A. Liz Adventures, and Hello Happiness for 5 on Friday!

-ONE-
We started twice a week swim lessons this week! Owen is doing so well in the pool that I'm thinking he'll be ready for independent swim lessons (the kind where 2-3 kids sit on the steps and wait for their turn with the teach, and mom watches from the bench) next session. He's happy in the water, goes right to the teacher for practice and  He seems to think he already knows how to swim, which is dangerous, so it's important that he really, really learns what it means to be able to swim. When I hold him in the pool he is in constant motion kicking, and paddling like a dog, and usually tells me to let him go. Our happy place is the kiddie pool where the water is only 1 foot deep.

-TWO-
Mr. Independant often tells me "how about ME do it, mommy?" or "I do it SELF!" when I offer to help him fix a toy, open his snack or retrieve something from the refrigerator for him. So, it's no surprise that he loves peeling those little cuties himself, and he finally likes eating them too! I think I can stop calling him a picky eater since he'll gladly eat spinach leaves, carrots, cashews or cucumber as a snack and then wash it down with Perrier, right?

-THREE-
On Tuesday we were on our way out the door, heading to the gym, and I just did not feel like I could survive a workout. I asked Owen if he wanted to skip the gym and go to the park instead, but he wasn't havin' it. He was looking forward to playing with his gym buddy, Ben. So, I turned around, grabbed y computer from the house and off to the gym we went. I checked him into the child car, ordered a bagel + a latte and spent a blissful hour outside the cafe. It was nice! I'm not going to make a habit of it, because if I'm there paying for childcare I should be working out -- but everyone in a while you just need a mental health day hour.

-FOUR-
I made the Weelicious Pulled Pork Tacos this week and they were amazing! They may have been the best tacos I've ever made at home. They'll be showing up on our dinner menu often. They'd be even better with pickled red onions too! Owen and I have started a little tradition of making pizza together one night during the week. We usually order pizza once a week and doing this kind of keeps us from doing that as often. It also gets Owen really excited for his dinner and he eats some of the chopped veggies as we prepare the pizzas together. Do you have a favorite pizza dough? Last week we used our go-to Trader Joe's herb dough and whole wheat doughs, and this week we used fresh dough from Whole Foods (you can buy it in the prepared deli foods section). Do you have a favorite dough we should try?

-FIVE-
Owen painted this beautiful piece of art work last week, and I think it looks like something someone would display in their home. Now, one of three things is going on here: a.) I am just a super smitten momma who thinks anything her son does is amazing b.) Owen is a young reincarnation of Picasso, destined for fame c.) My knowledge and taste in art in next to nil, and I am thus totally diluted.

I think d.) a little bit of all of the above! is the correct answer.

I hope you have a great weekend and a lovely Mother's Day with your family! See ya Monday!

I'm SO jealous Owen is loving the pool! Lex had a major regression and won't even look at the pool. I HATE it. We're trying to give her a break but hoping she comes around soon-ish. I want her to love the pool like Owen!!

I would totally put that painting up, especially if my little painted it :) And those tacos look yummy -- I'm definitely going to try out the recipe myself!

Owen did a fantastic job on his painting! You might have a little artist on your hands. I'm glad you mentioned swim lessons because I have been forgetting to look into lessons for Elin.

Wow, childcare at the gym is definitely something I need to start taking advantage of! That's so fun that you got to have a nice relaxing afternoon there - every momma deserves that once in a while!

I've thought about 'testing' ashlynn with the gym care doing the same. I'm afraid they'll page me in right when I get into working out, almost feel like it's less effort to jsut drop her and sit and wait for them to call me haha... because eating a muffin AT THE GYM is right choice, haha!

Everyone needs mental health hour!! With my son, I never took him to formal swim lessons, I was that mother that threw him in and he learned over time. He was never scared of the water so I really had to teach him as quickly as possible. I also got him a swim vest with padding that gets removed as he gets more confident and that really helped alot!!

I hope you have an amazing Mother's Day!!

Ha! Your #5 made me laugh out loud.

That's awesome that he is doing so well swimming! And I just love his little concentrated face peeling those cuties!! Abigail loves to peel all our oranges too.

Your gym has a café?! Say what??
