Meet the Sullivans: Mother's Day Weekend

Mother's Day Weekend

I hope everyone had a lovely Mother's Day with their families, either celebrating your mom or being celebrated yourself!

We had a great weekend filled with food and fun! The weekends are always a whirlwind of activities and outings for us and we wouldn't have it any other way.

On Saturday my mom, sister, Owen and I had a beach date planned. We drove out to the beach to find hat it was way too windy to spend the day there. It was so windy, in fact, that when we got back to the car after standing on the beach for 10 minutes we all hand sand in out mouths. Yuck. We buckled Owen back in (and ourselves -- saftey first!) and headed back to our neighborhood park.

We had a nice little picnic lunch and mimosas in between taking turns in the sandbox with O, who could not be bothered with stopping to eat lunch. He only ditched the sand and shovels when Granny offered him lemonade and cookies. He was obviously just waiting for a better offer.

Saturday night my mom and sis came back over to our house to watch Owen while Keith and I had a date. We tried Pacific Catch, which is literally feet from the movie theater, and it is one of my new favorite restaurants. The food and drinks were fantastic and the service was great! I had a lemon drop (duh -- of course!) and Keith had the long board lager, and we shared a few things for dinner. We had the Tempura Shrimp Roll, Coffee Rubbed Ribs and the Steak and Shrimp Tacos with Sweet Potato fries. It took us forever to decide what to order because everything sounded so good!

After dinner we saw Amazing Spiderman II. The movie was good and I really like Emma Stone + Andrew Garfield together, but I'm not sure if I like this version better than the one with Kirsten Dunst + Tobey Maguire. I think I liked the feel and old-timeness of the first ones more, but like Stone + Garfield more.

Sunday morning I woke up at 5:30 to the sound of Owen on the monitor. I was surprised to look at the clock and realize that he had slept all night! What a great mother's day gift, right? Keith got up to rock him and give him some milk while I slept more. Keith sat with Owen asleep in his lap in the rocking chair until I woke up at 8:30. It was amazing to feel so well rested!

The guys ushered me back to bed though and then brought me coffee in my new favorite mug, gifts and the Target ad from the Sunday paper. They know how to make me a happy mommy!

After coffee and babas we got dressed and headed up to San Francisco for Picnic at the Presidio! It's a huge gathering of food trucks and some booths / farmer's market type stands on a huge lawn overlooking the bay and Golden Gate bridge. It's every Sunday now through September I believe, so if you get the chance you should GO!

The lines for food + drinks were really long, so we didn't stay long, but we did manage to have a drink or two and some of the best fried chicken in the world from Wing Wings. I had the frozen mimosa (basically a mimosa icee) and it was frozen heaven in a biodegradable cup! Last year Owen was all over the place when we would go to Picnic, but this year was totally different. He stayed with us on our blanket and played and people watched the entire time. What a difference a year makes!

After fishing lunch we ditched our blanket and cooler in the car and took Owen to see the statue of Yoda outside the Lucas Films HQ. He loved seeing Yoda and peaking inside the building to see the life size Vader and Boba Fett.

We hung around for a little afterward to have some coffee and for Owen to have a chocolate milk before loading back up to head home. The rest of our day was pretty standard: naps, dinner, bath, bedtime and an episode of Veep for mommy + daddy!

I'm so lucky to be mommy to our little boy, and to get to raise him with Keith. We had a fun day filled with activities, but watching Owen play and explore was the best part of it all. Hearing him express his thoughts and watching him experience each day is the best part of being a mommy!
