Meet the Sullivans: Hey, Friday!

February 20, 2015

Hey, Friday!

Good morning, friends! I hope you've made it from Monday to Friday no worse for wear, and that you're ready for the wonderful weekend. I know we are!

/ one / I finished Wild this week, and I have to say, I liked it a lot! I know some people found parts of it to be repetitive or boring, but it really makes me want to go hiking, but maybe not for 30 days or thousands of miles like she did. It also made me long for the warm, sunny days of summer ahead!

I've since moved onto The Girl on the Train, which I've heard is great but can also be sort of depressing and sad. I haven't gotten into the grit of the book yet, so we shall see.

/ two / We tried a new play place (Rockin' Jump) on Tuesday when O was out of school -- so fun! All the jumping gave me a bit of motion sickness though. Owen had a ball though and eeps bringing it up at dinner as a conversation topic. He'll say "So, Mommy? Daddy? Let's talk about the jumping place..." and leave it up to us to carry on the conversation from there. It's so cute that he just wants to keep reminiscing about it.

/ three / I've taken a position on the board of the San Mateo Mother's Club as one of the Children's Outings coordinators. So... if you live in the area and want to join the club, or are already a member, please come to my events! They'll be TONS of fun! And in related news, it looks like I will be on the board of his preschool for the next school year as well. (!!!)

/ four / We've signed O up for 3 year-old preschool for next year and it is so exciting! He got into the class we wanted (mornings!), and now the only trouble is that it is Mon / Wed/ Fri and Keith is still off on Mondays, which means it will cut into our family / "weekend" time. There is really nothing we can do about that though, other than hope Keith will get moved to a more standard Monday through Friday schedule soon. Maybe then we can have some three day weekends like normal people do?!

/ five / My Organic Grass-Fed Beef Gelatin came yesterday. Yep, sounds delish huh? Well, it is supposed to be high in protein and way better than the stuff in traditional gummies, even Annie's Gummy Bunnies, which O can't get enough of and I buy in bulk. I'm going to try to make some soon and, as always I will totally share the outcome with you!

/ six / We're two days into Lent and I've already started thinking of things I want to buy. It hasn't been too hard though, because I haven't been out doing any shopping in the last few days - we've only gone to the gym / school / swimming etc., but I know I'm going to be facing some challenges as all the super cute spring stuff keeps popping up in stores.

/ seven / Last week I read on Samma's blog that she'd been watering down her daughter's milk and I thought I'd give it a try with Owen as well because he is a huge milk drinker. No really, he requests a "baba" (has always called it that, although he's been drinking his milk from a sippy cup for a long long time now) allll day long and it really curbs his appetite. We've been doing about 2/3 milk and 1/3 water all week and it has greatly increased his appetite! I think he eats about 50% more at each meal now. I'm so thrilled and he is none the wiser!

I love how involved you are getting in all of O's activities! Liam is going to start 3 year old preschool in the fall too (if he likes it), but he will have just turned three since he's a summer baby which makes me a bit nervous. We're dating between two schools right now (a Montessori & a catholic school) but now I feel like I really need to get on top of this! I thought uncoils wait until spring!

Congratulations, Colleen! Being on the board for both the Mother's Club and Owen's preschool will be a great way to stay involved!:) If we were closer, we'd totally join in the activities you plan. Can't wait to hear more about it! And why have I never thought of watering down milk a bit (we do that with juice)? Caleb totally fills up on his around dinner time, so this would be a great way to help keep him from curbing his appetite right around meal time. Thanks for the tip, sweet girl. Happy Friday!:)

My daughter is 3 and still LOVES milk! That's a good idea to water it down. As of now, she only gets it after her meals.

Woohoo! Exciting things happening for you! How is Owen moving to a 3 year old class already? Too sweet. We just were told that C needs to drink more milk because her weight is a bit on the low side. She is such a small eater. My doctor did say that typically she tells patients that once a baby turns 2, you can drink skim milk, just not in C's case. I wonder if O would like that. I bet it would make things easier for you. ;) Happy Friday, friend!

I signed Elin up for Preschool and that is the same schedule we picked. MWF in the mornings. i don't know how long your school is but I think ours is only 2.5 so I figure that will fly by quick.

3 year old pre-school already?! Ahh maybe I need to get thinking about this for Scarlett... I just feel right now that she wouldn't be ready for preschool! That jumping place looks os fun, we have an open gym here that we take Scarlett to and she has a ball!

That's awesome about the milk! I love sneaky and successful mom tricks like that ;)

Happy Friday, Colleen!

I never would have thought of that with the milk! Thank goodness for mamas sharing information!

I think it's adorable he wants to keep talking about the 'jump place', so cute. I've been thinking about getting some of that gelatin too, great health benefits. Do share recipes!! :) Have a great weekend!!

All schools are different, some don't start the enrollment process until March, but ours opened up Feb 6th for continuing families, since they have priority over new ones. I am hoping Liam likes school -- it will be so good for him and great for you with the new baby!

That was totally our problem too -he would fill up on a "baba" right before Keith came home and would barely eat dinner and then would ask for snack after bath time. I was just giving him smaller amounts of milk, but I think adding the water gives him the feeling he's getting a "BIG baba", which is always how he asks for it. Have a great weekend!

I think Owen would live off just milk alone if he could! I've tried only letting him have it after meals, but it usually results in a tantrum and then refusal to eat :( Have a great weekend!

I know right? It's 3 year-old and then pre-K :( I'm not ready for him to be that grown up!

How awesome that you are on the board of your Mom's Club and O's preschool! I don't think they have a "board" at Mason's but I totally can't wait to be a part of his school when he's older!

Colleen said...

Ours is only 2.5 hrs too, which doesn't seem like a lot, but I always manage to accomplish quite a bit without my little "helper" in tow :)

Crazy, right? I don't even believe myself when I say he's 3! Has Scarlett ever done any kind of drop off? Sometimes the co-ops can be a great way to transition into full fledged school. I know with your work schedule a co-op would be hard though.

Colleen said...

Me too! Sneaky mommies get it done! ;)

Colleen said...

Totally! I've learned so much from reading mommy blogs over the years!

Colleen said...

I'm really excited about it and I will definitely share the ones we try!

She doesn't go to a co-op but she goes to a day home when I'm at work, it's not really structured, she basically just plays with the other kids... but she's gone since she was a year old and does great. I've left her with friends before too... I'm sure pre-school will be hard at first just because she's so introverted and that many kids will be a huge adjustment for her.

Yay for preschool! My daughter will start for the first time this fall. Hope you enjoy being on the board!

Congrats on the board positions! Excited to hear about the gummies, because we have a gummy monster here too.

Love the milk idea. My little one would live off milk if she could. Thankfully she likes water, but definitely noticed her meal consumption goes down when she drinks more milk. So smart!! Hope you're having a good start to the week! Thanks for linking up with us at H54F!
