October 2015 Goals

October is here! Owen is really into Halloween this year and things spooky! He had the time of his life decorating the front yard this weekend with some Halloween decorations his B gave him.We played Monster Mash and covered the yard in cobwebs and spiders!

Did you set goals for yourself this year? How have you done with keeping them?

My New Year's resolution for 2015 was to set small, yet obtainable goals for myself each month in a few categories, and to keep myself accountable by detailing and sharing my progress here! Everything was going pretty well (my goals for January, February, March) in the goal setting and keeping department until March when we found I was pregnant, and then my whole mindset and priorities changed. No surprise thought, right?! The first trimester exhaustion and nausea kicked in, and I totally forgot about goal making and focused on survival instead!

Now that the year is almost over, and my pregnancy is nearing an end as well, I thought it would be a great time to detail some goals I have before the baby comes / the year is finished. I'm going to just call December a wash since we'll be adjusting to our new normal at home and celebrating the holidays.

Goals for October

Simplify meals. I love to cook from recipes, but they can be really time consuming. Keith has been urging me for years to just cook something simple with few ingredients (like chicken, veggies and rice) a few times a week to give myself a break. Starting this week I'm going to take his advice, because cooking dinner has become a major chore at this point in my pregnancy.

Eat out less. Keith and I took a closer look at our spending last week and realized we have been way over spending on eating out. I didn't think we were eating out too much, but it really adds up if I take Owen out to lunch during the week, we go out on a date Saturday, lunch with my mom on Saturday and then order take out once too. All of those things don't happen every week, but it's important to keep an eye on it.

Freezer meals. I'm hoping to start on these this month and have at least 5-6 stored away for when the baby comes. Do you have any favorites to suggest?

Baby goals...

We have a lot to do before the baby comes, but I don't expect to finish it all October!

assemble crib  done!
assemble co-sleeper
install car seats
wash baby clothes & blankets done!
check breast pump
pack hospital bags
gift for Owen from baby
gift for baby from Owen

Reading. I'm currently reading The Martian, which just came out in theaters too. Keith and I want to see it, and I want to finish reading it first, so I have to finish it soon. I'm going to give Circling the Sun by Paula McLain, author of The Paris Wife (one of my very favorite books!), or Mindy Kaling's new book Why Not Me?, a try next!

Christmas / Birthday shopping. I have got to get this done in the next 6 weeks. We have no less than 5, soon to be 6 with baby #2, family member's birthdays in December, in addition to regular Christmas shopping. I want to get it all done before the baby arrives so we don't have to even think about anything but gift wrapping once he's here. I'm happy to say that we're nearly done shopping for Owen though!

Study for RICA. I'm thisclose to being done with my teaching credential. It's been a long process for me and I've just dragged it out in the last 3 years. I haven't made it a priority at all. I've laid out a plan for myself to study while O is in school, and then to take the test at the beginning of November, so I can be done with it by the New Year. Then I can start working on my real estate license!

And, I think that's enough! What are your plans for the month?
