Meet the Sullivans: Tahoe

August 1, 2016

Last weekend we went up to Tahoe for a few nights to vacation with family. We have quite a big group when all of the aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews get together -- it is always guaranteed to be fun, eventful and a great time for everyone!

I spent pretty much all of Friday and Friday night making sure we were sufficiently packed for the trip and had all the necessities; hats, beach tent, snacks, water shoes, pack 'n play, and the list goes on and on...

We all couldn't wait to get up into the mountains and see the lake, so we woke up and hit the road by 7:20 Saturday morning. The boys were perfect angels on the way up, and we only had to stop once during our 4 1/2 hour drive. Luke slept most of the time, and I actually had to wake him up to get him our of the car for breakfast at Black Bear Diner. Owen stayed awake the whole drive and spent a little time on the iPad, but mostly enjoyed looking out the window and talking to us.

When we arrived everyone helped us unload all our stuff and we hung around for a little while.

We went out for a walk down to the lake and strolled by the all the multi-million dollar mansions on the water. We brought our BOB stroller (the best stroller in the world, in my opinion!) and our utility wagon along on the trip so we could pull both boys around and all of our stuff down to the beach. Both were golden! The boy's loved riding in the wagon together to and from the cabins.

We sent most of Sunday down at Incline Beach with the whole family! We played in the water and in the sand, but mostly in the water. We went out on floats, little boats and kayaks, ate french fries and drank mai tais. What a fun time!

Luke napped in the stroller on the way down and on the way home, and Owen napped in the wagon on the walk back. It was perfect!

Luke had a lot of fun too! He enjoyed all the new sights and sounds, and he really loved splashing in the lake! I can't wait for next year when he gets to get into it all a little more.

On Sunday a group of us went to Burnt Cedar beach for some more time in the water, and to let Owen catch some crawdads. I remember catching them myself when I was a kid, and it's exactly the kind of thing Owen enjoys, so it was something I really wanted him to try.

We spent a lot of time just hanging around with our family, going on walks, at the beach, and we all even made it out a few times for ice cream and to play mini golf. This was Owen's first time to play mini golf and he had a blast! He got really into it and loved seeing what each new hold looked like.

My only regret about the trip is that I didn't get a picture of everyone all together -- I'm pretty bummed about it. I also didn't get a picture of the four of us. It seemed like every time I thought of it someone was sleeping, or running off to have some fun. Maybe next year!

The drive home was not quite as smooth. We had to stop for two potty breaks, lunch and once just to cuddle Luke because he was upset. We stopped for lunch at In 'N Out for lunch and Luke got to sit in the highchair, like a big boy, and we could tell he was very proud of himself sitting in there.

We all loved being up in the mountains, and if the drive weren't so long we would be up there all the time!
