Meet the Sullivans: March 2016

Easter 2016

Keith and I consider ourselves pretty lucky when it comes to family. Most of our family lives close by, so for each holiday we are able to see both sides. It makes for a pretty hectic and busy holiday weekend, but we wouldn't have it any other way.

On Saturday night we celebrated with Keith's side. Owen and Luke's cousins are all quite a bit older than they are, but they love to play with them, which is so sweet!

The kids had a little egg hunt out front and then sat together on the front porch to open their eggs. We went on a long walk after dinner and played for a while before it was time to say goodbye. Owen always wakes up the day after seeing his cousins and asks where they are -- he really loves them so much!

Luke enjoyed all of the love and attention too! He gets passed around and played with and I don't think he minds at all!

Sunday morning the Easter Bunny arrived bright and early with baskets and eggs for the boys.

(here is what was inside their baskets!)

Owen was most excited about the Playskool Galactic Heroes Star Wars action figures! Once he spotted those he didn't care about seeing what else was inside, although he has had fun playing with the garden tools and bubble blaster this week!

We made it to church right on time (we've been late every week this month!), but still had to sit all the way out in the vestibule. Our church is always overflowing on holidays.

Afterward we came home and I whipped up brunch. We had mimosas, eggs, ham, chocolate chip greek yogurt buttermilk pancakes, cinnamon whipped cream and berries. It was fantastic and we were so full!

After cleaning up brunch I made the scalloped potatoes gratin we brought to my grandpa's house and then it was time to pack up and head over.

Now, in Keith's family the boys are grandkids number 10 and 11, and in mine they are the only grandchildren. They're the best entertainment! Whenever we walk in the door of my grandpa's house Owen asks my Aunt Lesley (hi Aunty!) to take him in the backyard to explore. He loves hearing about all the wildlife that live in the huge grass field behind the house and the pond.

Owen also scored three more Easter "baskets" at my grandpas's house, which makes him the most spoiled loved kid I know!

The Monday after Easter, when Keith went back to work, was rough. I'm so used to him being home the day after a holiday weekend, which usually allowed us to re coup and get errands done. We were all exhausted after all the weekend fun!

How was your Easter?

Friday Favorites

Happy Friday, my friends! Sorry for the lack of quality blogging as of late. With Owen rarely napping and Luke not sleeping well I'm short on time and energy for anything but the basics. Thank you for sticking around, and I hope that I'll be back to blogging with some regularity soon. I really do enjoy it! In the meantime here's a little of what we've been up to lately... Friday Favorites style.

Today is Good Friday, and it's also the last meatless Friday, but I kind of enjoyed cooking meat free at least one day of the week. Last week I made these Spinach and Arugula Lasagna Roll Ups and they were really tasty! I liked that they were easier to make than a full lasagna and cooked in less time too.

As you may have seen on Snapchat, we celebrated St. Patrick's Day with family last weekend. It was Luke's first St. Patty's day and he celebrated the only way he knows how... napping to his hearts content and blowing out his diaper not once but twice!

We ate the usual, corned beef, cabbage and carrots, potatoes and Irish Soda Bread. It was great!

On Sunday I finally got a pedicure, it had been way too long. It was so nice to sit in one place for 30 minutes straight and have no one need me, or any laundry or dishes or mess staring back at me. The pedicure was great too. I also found my new favorite pink color, OPI Infinite Shine 2 Indefinitely Baby.

Luke is now rolling over! I can't believe it really. Owen was always early at reaching milestones, but Luke rolled even earlier than his big brother. We're proud of you Luke!

Owen had a haircut this week so he'd look super clean cut for Easter. I usually just ask for them to shorten it up all over, but this time I decided to show them a picture of how I wanted it to look. I did a quick search for "boys short hair styles" on Pinterest and up popped a picture of Paul Walker, so that's what we went with. Doesn't my boy look handsome?

The boys visited the Easter Bunny this week! Owen was THRILLED to be there. You would have thought TEB (The Easter Bunny) was the President or something. Luke had no clue. I don't think he even got a good look at TEB, which is probably a good thing because he might have cried. The boy's were great but the picture was meh. Good thing we only paid $20 for our copies.

I actually think the iPhone photo I took of them on the couch at home turned out better!

Just a little shout-out to my little man for being such a trooper! He is just along for the ride most of them time as we shuttle Owen to school, run errands, go to the gym, etc. It's all he knows, so he just goes with the flow and I'm so thankful.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend with your families and the people you love celebrating God's love for us. Happy Easter!

Owen and Luke's Easter Baskets 2016

I had a lot of fun filling the boys' Easter baskets this year! I can't wait for Easter morning when they get to open them!

It is really easy to find fun and useful things to put in Owen's basket. He can eat almost anything, loves lots of different kinds of toys and activities and I know he'll be excited no matter what. Luke was a little harder to shop for because he's still so little and doesn't need much, and anything he will need we pretty much have. I was still able to find some cute thing to fill his basket up with.

First let's talk liners and baskets! I wanted the boys' baskets to be similar, but not the same, so I ordered Luke's basket liner on Zulily (referral link) a month ago. Owen's was from Pottery Barn Kids (and all PBK baskets and liners are 40-60% off right now!), but I was able to get this one for half the price while still getting the same look. The basket it came with was pretty large, and Luke didn't have too much, so I switched their baskets. Luke has Owen's basket and his liner, and Owen has the basket that came with Luke's liner.

Inside his basket there is: a bubble wand from the $1 spot, a light up toy, a chocolate bunny that daddy will probably eat, sunscreen and body wash, a teether, a pack of Sleep n Plays, and a handsome little bodysuit. I'm glad that most of the stuff in his basket are things he will really use, and not just more stuff to fill the house up with.

Owen's liner is the same gingham one I ordered for him from Pottery Barn Kids a few years ago, but with the basket that came with Luke's. The basket isn't the best quality, so I will probably find a new one for next year. The basket is pretty deep and wide, so it was perfect for all the stuff that was going inside Owen's basket.

Inside Owen's basket there is: a pack of Playskool Galactic Heroes Star Wars Resistance Finn (Jakku) & First Order Stormtrooper, a bubble shooter, sidewalk chalk, carrot and bunny gummies, a pack of Star Wars Micromachines, new markers, chocolate ladybug and bees, a new garden shovel and rake, and a sunflower grow kit.

My very favorite thing in his basket is the children's wooden rosary we found for him.

I've also filled his eggs with chocolate, coins, stickers and lollipops. Luke will hunt for the eggs too, but he'll probably be generous and give the contents to hid big brother.

So those are the boys' baskets for this year! I can't wait to celebrate our first Easter all together! If you'd like to see what the Easter Bunny put Owen's baskets in past years: 2015 (3 years), 2014 (2 years), 2013 (1 year), 2012 (baby).

Friday Favorites

What a week! Keith has been sick since Tuesday, and we have seriously missed his company in the mornings and evenings. I'm glad Owen is at the age though that he gets it and doesn't cry when one of us is sick and he misses us. When he heard daddy was sick he ran up and found his honey lollipops to share with Keith for his throat. What a sweetie!

We've got another fun filled weekend ahead with family visiting, a St. Patrick's celebration, brunch with friends and church!

Here are some of my favorites from this week:

On Monday I took Luke with me to Daly City to check out Sprouts. I'd heard it was like a cross between Whole Foods and Trader Joe's, and I had wanted to check it out. I was impressed with the quality and price of the produce -- the strawberries were beautiful and only $2 a pound. Impressive right? I'm used to paying $5.99 for so so looking ones.

I made the Yarn Easter Eggs I saw on What's Up Moms over the weekend, and let them dry for a couple days. I let Owen pop the balloon that was inside and help me use a toothpick to scrape away the extra starch. I think they turned out pretty cute and they look springy and cheerful on the kitchen table.

We've start a new little routine this week since the weather was nice. On Tuesday and Thursday mornings we've been going to the gym and then after we have lunch at the park. It's been a lot of fun for Owen and he's totally tired out when we get home the afternoon. On Tuesday he even took a nap on the couch!

This little guy! He's been chatting up a storm this week with his coos and squeals and little laughs. I don't know what happened to my great sleeper though, because we've been up 1-4 times a night this week, which has been really rough.

And there he is again looking so big! He's growing so fast and I really just want to stop him. I enjoy him so much.

And I have to share this, if you haven't already seen it for yourself. Rombauer Chardonnay is at Costco for only $28.99. It sells at the winery for about $30 and way more everywhere else, so this is a phenomenal deal!

Like is a pretty easy baby, but being up with him a few times a night, and then not getting a nap from Owen most of the time really tires me out! There is almost no way to catch up on sleep these days, and I really don't remember the last time I felt like I wasn't tired! Who is with me?

10 on 10 - March 2016

10 pictures on the 10th day of the month!

{Document a snapshot of your life & find beauty among the ordinary things in your day!}
ten on ten button

Last Thursday was the tenth of the month, so I tried to document our day by snapping ten photos to show what we were up to. This is Thursday, March 10th, 2016!

Our day officially started at 6:30am when Owen decided he was up for the day. He had come into our bed at 4am, Keith was up at 5am for the gym, and Luke was up at 5:45am to feed, but I consider 6:30am our wake-up time since it's when we were up for the day.

Owen and I hung out in bed for a bit drinking our coffee and milk.

Owen hung out on the kitchen counter while I put dinner in the slow cooker and put the dishes away. He's into playing Starfall on the iPad these days. Luke was still asleep in bed.

I prepped the Chili & Lime Slow-Cooked Pork and put it in the slow cooker. It's an easy dinner to put together in the morning before we leave!

Luke woke-up and he was just super happy and chatting!

We made it to the gym, even though I was seriously lacking in energy and motivation. After my workout we rushed home to eat lunch and get back out the door to meet up with our friends.

We met up with our friend M and her mom. The kids had a great time playing in the sand and water table and getting soaked.

Luke chilled on my lap for most of our time there. He's such a happy baby, and drooly these days.

It was really stormy outside, so when we got home we were really happy to be in the warm dry house. The night before Keith pulled out his super hero cards from when he was a kid and Owen loves flipping through the book.

Luke got a warm bubble bath in the sink before dinner. I'm glad he likes baths because I love giving them to him. He's just so sweet and talkative the entire time.

The time between dinner and bedtime goes by so quickly that I don't even know where the time went. Luke is still sleeping in our room, and he was fighting a cold, so each night before bed I fill up the essential oil diffuser, our humidifier and Owen's. It is quite the task!
