Meet the Sullivans: This & That

This & That

Hey guys! It feels like forever since I've blogged. I think I posted once last week and maybe once the week before? I keep meaning to, and wanting to, but then I just never find the time. Last week was an exhausting one. Luke and I both had colds, which meant neither of us were getting much rest during the night, which resulted in a cranky toddler and tired mommy. Anyway, we're feeling better now so I've popped in to share a little bit of this and that.

A couple weeks ago we celebrated my sister Kathee aka Dinny's birthday! We went out for Mexican food and came back to the house to play with the boys and have cupcakes. I can't believe my kid sister (remember the commercial for that doll? I used to sing the theme song to Kath and she hated it :) is 32 years-old, mostly because I still think I'm 32 most of the time! Happy birthday, Kath!

Owen got a giant T-Rex kite at Costco a few weeks ago and we took it out one day to give it a go. We all got a good laugh trying to fly the big ol' thing, and Luke and Owen got a good workout chasing after it. I had to look up directions for flying a kite, because I was sure we were doing it wrong -- guess flying a kite isn't something you always remember how to do like riding a bike. We managed to get it up in the air for brief moments, but I don't think it quite lived up to Owen's expectations of what kite flying would be like!

What's new with Owen? Well, he got a handsome haircut last week and I think I finally know how I like his hair. I've played with different variations of cuts over the years, but still find it difficult to style. He has quite a lot of hair, so much that when I try to wash it the water runs right over it like a horse's hair, and it is kind of crazy in the morning. He has a little cowlick in the back (you can see it in the next photo) and someone finally clued me in with the tip to let it grow out rather than cutting it all short.

Owen is really into telling and hearing stories. He loves being read to, having us make up stories for him, telling us his own tales and recently we picked up some books on tape from the library. He has really enjoyed listening to them in the car on the way to school and sometimes at home. It's a great way to keep him entertained while I'm busy with Luke without handing over the iPad. Do your kids have any favorite books on tape?

Last week I decided to start letting Luke play in the sand at the park. I've been holding back because I didn't think he was capable of being in the sandbox without trying to eat the sand, but he did quite well. The amount of sand he ended up with in his hair and other places was minimal, and he was THRILLED with all the sand toy fun, so it was well worth the mess. I remember when Owen started playing in the sandbox and it was such a fun little activity for him.

Nothing much to say about this photo other than when I look at it I feel very fortunate!

This is the extent of my spring decor at the moment. I don't know if it's just me but I feel like I can't go all out with Easter until after St. Patrick's Day. Although, I did buy a bag of Cadbury mini eggs (my absolute favorite!) and have proceeded to demolish them with little to no help -- Owen had a handful or two.

These are awful pictures of me, but I really wanted to share about the workouts I've been doing. A mom from Owen's 2's class from a few years back does these HIIT challenges on Facebook and I decided to join for the month of March and give it a try. She posts a new workout each night for us to complete the next day and each one is only about 20 minutes, which is totally doable for me. Luke hasn't been happy at the gym lately, so this is a way for us to both get what we need.

I'm able to do the workout while Owen is in school and Luke just plays around in the family room and kitchen while I go through the sets.

For accountability we take a photo at the end of each workout and share it with the group. So far in the last week I've completed 5 of the workouts plus one or two of my regular sessions at the gym. The group has been an awesome motivator for me to do a little, although pretty challenging, workout each day!

Keith and I went on a date, at night (gasp) on Saturday to O's preschool auction night. I don't actually remember the last time we went on a date at night, and I think it may have been all the way back in December, like last year. It always feels easier to go out during the day and not have to worry about someone else bathing and putting the kids to bed for us. Anyway, it was a lot of fun! We bought raffle tickets, had a few drinks, danced, and bid on a few things until it was past our bedtime.

So that's what's been going on with us lately!
